What do you Need to Become a Journeyman Welder?
Outside of the cost of your apprenticeship, anywhere offering one varies in their requirements. Some locations may require you to have your own equipment, have specific knowledge before joining, or a variety of other prerequisites. For Elite Welding & Fabrication, we have little to no requirements for those interested. We simply ask that apprentices have experience with at least one basic welding class. This helps new apprentices know the basics before we throw them into more complicated work.
Is Financial Assistance Available?
Some apprenticeships offer financial assistance for prospective apprentices. These include grants, scholarships, and a variety of others. Elite Welding & Fabrication accepts specific grants for our program to help individuals become a journeyman welder. However, these grants largely vary depending on the age of the apprentice and depending on availability. So, when considering an apprenticeship with Elite Welding, make sure to inquire about what grant options might currently be available to you.
Required Hands-On Hours
Every training program varies slightly from one to the next. So, it’s important to know exactly the type of commitment your training requires. With Elite Welding & Fabrication, our apprenticeship requires 6000 on-the-job training hours. This equates to roughly 3 years depending on how many hours you work each week. This amount of time ensures that you have the opportunity to learn everything you need to feel confident in your work. It also helps to guarantee that you get hands-on experience with all the types of projects that could come up while working.
Required Classroom Hours
Alongside hands-on training, the program requires 195 total class hours as well. These hours help apprentices learn practical knowledge about welding to increase their overall competence. They also work to supplement the hands-on experience you receive to reinforce what you learn. These hours also provide you with the opportunity to ask questions in an environment specifically designed for learning. By working through classroom hours alongside hands-on hours, you learn skills of the trade and retention of those skills to become a better welder.
